Boise-Basque Block

What is the Boise-Basque Block Podcast Tour?

The Boise Basque Block Podcast Tour is a free audio/video tour designed to run on any MP3 compatible player. It will appeal to people of all ages by showcasing the art, music, and culture of the Basque Community through a dynamic, interactive medium.

How does the podcast tour work?

The tour will guide people as they walk through the Boise Basque Block, providing historical information, and highlighting the artwork, music, and rich heritage of the Basque people.

What is the purpose?

Through this engaging tour, we will highlight the Basque culture and inspire visitors to explore more of what the Basque Block has to offer, including the vast array of art displays, the Basque museum, and surrounding restaurants and businesses. (Visit) The Podcast Tour will lead people through the Basque Museum Cultural Center, the Basque Market and other neighboring Basque landmarks.

What are some examples of what will be showcased?

With help from the Basque community, we will feature performances by local Basque musicians and dancers. The Podcast will highlight artwork like Ward Hooper’s “Lalak 2000,” the Letterman’s “Basque History Mural,” and the Basque Arborglyph Mural. It will also bring those intriguing sidewalk musical imprints to life! As people reach the imprints, the Podcast Tour will show a video of members of the Biotzetik Choir performing the children’s folk songs depicted on the sidewalk. the Podcast Tour will provide a taste of Jaialdi for those unable to attend the festival.

Why are we looking for additional funding?

In order to generate a high volume of traffic for the Basque Block, we want this podcast to be free to the public. To achieve this goal, we need your help.

Producing a podcast is time consuming and costly, but much like any project that is worth doing, the rewards can be very fruitful. As such, we applied for and received a $1,000 grant through the “Boise Weekly Cover Art Auction Grant Fund.” We are very grateful for this money, but we are still seeking $1,500 in additional funds to make this free-to-the-public podcast a reality.

What will we do with the additional funds we are seeking?

• 40% will be used to support the artists, musicians, and dancers who will be highlighted in the tour.
• 40% will be used to write, direct, and produce the tour, including securing on-camera talent and equipment.
• 20% will be used for promotional purposes. (This is above what we hope to gain in word of mouth and earned media through press releases.)
